AANNNDDD FINALLY. The classic distressed short; perfect for the warm weather.
What you'll need to grab:
- Jagged knife
- Favorite pair of jeans or shorts
These shorts have had many past lives. First they were my go-to pair of high waisted pants, then they became shorts, and now they're distressed shorts. (I obviously couldn't make up my mind). These are a lot more distressed than my first pair of jeans (mentioned in part 1), but are super easy to do in a few steps.
STEP 1: MARK YOUR DENIM
Again, the best way I've found is to try them on and mark accordingly. Also mark where you want your holes to be. I chose one right below my butt, one on the back pocket, and a couple in the front. The key to a flattering pair of shorts, (I've found) is how you cut them. You can cut them straight across which personally I'm not a fan of (because it makes me look 'boxy') - or you can cut them in a V shape. I prefer to cut them at an angle, like the pictures below. (btw I took these pictures after I finished them so they're already cut and finished)
STEP 2: MEASURE/CUT YOUR DENIM
This time instead of using scissors to cut where the holes will be, you'll want to cut with a jagged knife. I used regular scissors (not fabric scissors) where it got a tad bit difficult. Using a knife rather than scissors gives them a more authentic look.
STEP 3: DISTRESS
This part is where you'll get the look you want. Take the knife and just rub back and forth in the rips like in the video below until you get them where you want.
STEP 4: THROW THEM IN THE WASHER
With these I like to wash them a couple times, just to get the look I want, but you may be happy with just one go around. Thus, the finished product. Easy peasy and it'll take 30 mins tops. I hope you enjoyed!
